The Alcaicería was the city's silk exchange under Nasrid rule, a closed and guarded quarter of narrow lanes. It burned in the 19th century and what stands now is a much smaller reconstruction in a Moorish style.
⚠️ Nobody should go expecting authenticity. It is a short grid of lanes selling lamps, tiles and fans, and the goods are largely imported.
⭐ It is still worth two minutes as you pass, because the scale of the lanes tells you something real about how the original worked — and it is directly between the cathedral and Bib-Rambla, so you are walking through anyway.
Our tip
Walk through it, do not shop in it, and keep going to the Plaza Bib-Rambla.
