The Alcazaba is a military structure and reads like one: thick walls, towers, and the footings of a barracks laid out in the open. It predates the palaces and is the reason the site is where it is.
⭐ Climb the Torre de la Vela. From the top you get the whole city at once — the Albaicín opposite, the cathedral in the middle distance, the vega spreading out beyond and the Sierra Nevada behind you. It is the best view in Granada and it is included.
⚠️ The stairs up the tower are steep and narrow and there is no other way up.
Our tip
Do the Alcazaba first if your palace slot is later — the light is better early and you get the geography before you see anything else.
