The monastery was founded after the conquest and finished over the following century. Its two cloisters are quiet in a way little else in central Granada is — orange trees, arcades, and very few people.
⭐ The church is the surprise: every surface painted, a huge gilded retablo at the east end, and a coffered ceiling above the nave. It is the burial place of Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba, the general known as el Gran Capitán.
It is five minutes off the route most visitors walk and it is almost always empty.
Our tip
Sit in the second cloister for ten minutes. It is the quietest place in the city centre.
